DOT Blitz Roadcheck 2015
It’s that time of year again. The dates for Roadcheck 2015 or as I like to call it, the DOT Blitz, this year is June 2nd through June 4th. This year’s special focus will be on cargo securement, although inspections will still be to mainly perform the full 37 step Level 1 inspections. This will be the 28th year for the DOT Blitz. What’s funny is, in my 25 years of driving, I’ve only been pulled in once. (knock on wood)
On average, it’s about 3 times as many inspections are done each day during Roadcheck than on just the average day. The figures from last year show more than 73,000 inspections took place during the program. It resulted with 23 percent out-of-service rate for equipment and a 4.8 percent out-of-service rate for drivers across the entire country.
The CVSA is looking at roughly 10,000 inspectors including state, local and federal enforcement agencies that will be set up at 1,500 inspection points across the U.S. to do roadside inspections for trucks. Roadcheck has been held every since 1988 and there has been over 1.4 million inspections completed on trucks during the combined Roadchecks.
A Level 1 inspection is an examination of the driver’s record of duty status and the safety of the vehicle. Drivers are required to provide items such as their license, endorsements, medical card and hours-of-service documentation, and are checked for seat belt usage and the use of alcohol and/or drugs.
The vehicle inspection includes checking items such as the braking system, coupling devices, exhaust system, frame, fuel system, lights, safe loading, steering mechanism, suspension, tires, van and open-top trailer bodies, wheels and rims, windshield wipers, and emergency exits on buses.

Good luck out there this year! Maybe next year we can all take a vacation the week of Roadcheck 2016. That would just blow their minds.
Did you hear about the mandatory speed limiter rule being presented to the White House? You can read about it here.
